Dirtbag with plenty to answer for
A gruff dwarf who much preferred the company of his drones than that of his fellow metahumans, Baker was nevertheless professional when it came to job performance, providing overwatch and helping the team get out of several close scrapes. Having worked with the group multiple times in the Summer of 2074, nothing seemed amiss as they picked up new mission to exfiltrate (steal) a piece of communications equipment from a WhisperNet communications R&D facility in Auburn.
All was going well until it was time to leave. As soon as the team loaded the heavy container into the transport drone, it jetted off, with Baker riding atop it. Alarms triggered across the facility and guards came running for the trapped runners, who realized that Baker had indeed organized an escape plan, but that his designs didn’t include them. His drone landed within the waiting cargo bay of a passing unmarked airplane, and he was gone.
The crew managed to escape the run intact, though with corporate security hot on their tails, but found that Baker had done more than just leave them high and dry—he also trashed their reputations with local contacts across the shadow community, using audio clips and videos taken out of context and cut in the most damning light possible. With no safe haven to run to, and corporate security quickly breathing down their necks, the entire group was forced to flee Seattle, leaving behind the whole of their lives.
The questions of who Baker was truly working for, why he betrayed the team on that particular mission, and what the stolen technology could actually do, still weigh heavily on the minds of our team.
